Saphire sat back against her school bag watching the students arrive through the gates on the other side of Lazy Lake. She had been one of the first to arrive - a few days early because her parents were going on a special anniversary holiday. As a result she had been dropped off at school early and now had the pleasure of finally breaking the boredom of the summer holidays and watching her friends drive up the long driveway to the main school doors.
She was disappointed that none of her closest friends had arrived yet but it was only nine thirty and she'd still seen a fair few people she knew. With a sigh she took out her art book, turned the front, leather-bound cover and first few pages until a fresh snow-white sheet lay under her hand. She unhooked her pencil from the book's back cover and began to draw one of the knolled trees who's vines hung lazily down into the surface of the lake.
Saphire became so engrossed in her drawing that she didn't even notice when someone walk right up and stood behind her...

"Hi!" Jenivie blurted out with a bit more enthusiasm than was needed but the excitement of her first day couldn't be kept silent much longer.
She had been walking around the yard for quite some time admiring the building and the grounds but hadn't found the courage to approach any of the cliques wandering by. Enthused by finding someone alone like her she thought it was a good idea to pounce on the possibility of a new friend before someone else took it from her. She had strolled up, not wanting to come off as too energetic, but in the process had seemingly snuck up on her unknowing victim.
"sorry.." She added wistfully realizing her volume before had been shy short of a scream.
